FORT SILL, Okla. (May 24, 2021) - Families are invited to attend a basic combat training graduation ceremony on May 21, the first since the global pandemic halted public gatherings here in March 2020.

The ceremony honored young soldiers from D Battery, 1st Tag, 19th Field Artillery and A Battery, 1st Battalion, 31st Field Artillery.

Families began arriving early in their numbers from Wyoming and Colorado, to Massachusetts and Florida, and many states in between.

The ceremony featured all the usual basic combat training graduation tricks, but really the day was about giving families back. All the bleachers and private seats were filled, leaving many family members with a permanent view. However, by the end of the ceremony, no one was worried. At first, the soldiers left the parade ground to hug their families, but then, with a wave of joy, everyone came back in with smiles, tears and lots of love.
