Army Boot Camp Georgia - Fort Benning Basic Training is 10 weeks long. Trainees are identified by rank from day one at Fort Benning. So welcome to "private" training.

Get used to having no privacy. You sleep in an open crew bay where you sleep in bunks and store your personal belongings and equipment in wall lockers.

When drill sergeants need to address a platoon, they will address you and the group as a whole. In fact, they press right in the middle of your bay on a section in the middle. This is called the kill zone. Your drill sergeants will call you to "get on the line" (get right to the edge of the kill zone) and pay attention to their announcements.

Discipline and structure are established the moment you arrive at Fort Benning. When you first get off the bus, you are "welcomed" by a whole group of "welcome" drill sergeants. Don't worry, you will survive the "shark attack" as it is called.

Like everything else in Army Basic Training, your reception has a purpose. By creating confusion and some fear, it helps start the process of getting used not only to discipline, but to unfamiliar loud and sometimes scary things. As infantry, these are common on the battlefield.

Army Advanced Individual Training (ait)

Reception week is around 72 hours and involves a ton of ongoing and paperwork, but it also prepares you for the rest of the training to come.

During this phase of Army Basic Training, you will learn about team development, begin tackling obstacle courses, and approach and handle trust towers and courses.

Team building will be the primary focus during initiation, as you will rely on your fellow students throughout the training period.

The confidence course during the three weeks will be one of the first major obstacles you will have to overcome. On the Sand Hill Confidence Course, you climb up a half wall using a rope. You will quickly learn why this obstacle is called a wall hanging.

Week Infantry Osut Set To Increase Lethality, With More Career Fields To Follow

Completing the confidence course involves navigating a number of formidable obstacles. The ultimate goal of the course is to instill a sense of accomplishment as you progress through it.

After completing the obstacle courses, you realize "I can do this, I can be a soldier."

Whether you're in the city, the countryside, or somewhere in between, coming across a bright obstacle course and being able to complete it is a step in the right direction towards becoming a trooper!

After the confidence course, trainees will progress to rifle marksmanship in the second phase (white phase) of Army Basic Training. This phase is crucial for those who will become infantrymen after completing training.

The Army Will Grow Its Pre Boot Camp Program After Initial Success

Trainees begin training with the M4 carbine and learn firearms clearance procedures, safety regulations and weapon maintenance. As training progresses, you will shoot with back-up iron sights as well as a melee scope. Before the rifle qualification, you go through single, multiple, timed and moving targets.

While many of you will be shooting a firearm for the first time, there will also be many trainees who have grown up around firearms. So the learning curve can be steep, just hang in there. If you don't know, you learn, and if you know, you become an "expert" faster. By the time you complete this training, you will be an effective marksman regardless of where you started on the experience scale.

The blue phase, also known as heavy weapons training, will introduce you to the -50 caliber, hand grenades, the M320 grenade launcher, the automatic squad weapon known as the M249, M240 and more. During this part of Army Basic Training, you will also undergo extensive land navigation training.

You will also be tested in first aid, which is taught continuously to infantrymen (these terms also include female trainees) throughout basic army training.

Other skills you will become familiar with are weapons clearance procedures, how to use radios, and buddy and fireteam tactics.

Training friends and fire teams is essential. As you become an infantryman, you will work in fire teams at the squad level.

For soldiers in other Army occupational specialties, the end of the blue phase marks graduation from Fort Benning Basic Training. But those in the infantry will go to stages four and five. During these phases, soldiers will learn the finer points of infantry combat and receive more extensive training in battlefield skills and tactics.

Tip: There are no excuses in the military. Never make excuses. Your commanding officer or NCO will not hear your apology unless they ask.
