Welcome to the latest update of MMA Fighting's pound-for-pound rankings, where each month our esteemed panel sorts through the noise to answer one question: Who are the best MMA fighters in the world?

The Chechen destroyer was one of three new names to debut on the men's pound-for-pound list this month. Now a perfect 12-0 in his career, Chimaev needed just two minutes to dismantle Kevin Holland and reassert himself as a title contender after a bizarre week in Las Vegas that saw him cut weight by 7.5 kilograms and The Great Reshuffling™ at UFC ended. 279. With blowouts in five of his six UFC victories, Chimaev's destiny as champion feels more inevitable than ever. He comes in at number 20 on this month's list.

Kamaru Usman, Alexander Volkanovski Among 2022 Espy Nominees

As for our other two debutants, they don't need much in the way of introductions: Leon Edwards, who wrote a wonderful upset of our previous no. 2 Kamaru Usman, and Demetrious Johnson, who exacted a fierce revenge on our previous no. 20 Adriano. Moraes. For her work, Edwards moves up to a well-deserved 4th place in his pound-for-pound debut, while the legendary Johnson comes in at 13th.

As for what's next, all eyes will be squarely on Oct. 22 when UFC 280 takes place in Abu Dhabi. Each of the event's first three fights has major implications for the pound-for-pound rankings, but none more so than the main event: Charles Oliveira no. 3 against Islam Makhechev for the vacant UFC lightweight belt. Can't wait.

The PFL standout was the only woman on our list to compete since the last pound-for-pound update, crushing Martina Jindrova in just over three minutes. The victory set up a third meeting with Larissa Pacheco for Harrison, who is now a perfect 15-0 in her MMA career. The two-time Olympic champion has already defeated Pacheco twice - both times in 2019 and both via unanimous decisions - so the odds will be in their favor when the pair clash again on November 25 for the final of the PFL tournament in the light category .

Looking ahead, the next six weeks are a busy time for the bottom half of the women's pound-for-pound rankings as three fighters - no. 13 Katlyn Chookagian, no. 17 Seika Izawa and no. 19 Mackenzie Dern - all try to defend their spots against unclassified opposition. But that's not all: No. 3-ranked Cris Cyborg is back in action.

The reigning Bellator featherweight champion is set to make her professional boxing debut on September 25 against Simona da Silva in Brazil. Is Cyborg's crossover with boxing a one-off or a sign of things to come in her decorated career? We'll see.

As a reminder, the concept of pound-for-pound supremacy will always be inherently subjective. When youaredebatingwhethersomeonelikesyou
